The reform tries to give this apartment as much uniformity and unity to a
preexisting space with difficult conditions. It's
long and narrow shape and
the change of direction that occurs in the acces
makes us think that the
most immediate is the distribution of a long
corridor with rooms each side
as seen in the previous state.
We decided to perform a complete demolition of the existing in order to
have more freedom to make the new distribution. A
series of decisions gives
the space the desired unity and continuity. On one
hand we decided to put
an open kitchen in the narrowest part of the
apartment so that in addition
to its function it becomes a place of passage and
union between the day
and night areas. The decision of placing the
master bedroom behind the
bathroom, a completely transparent box, gives us the
possibility to observe
the full apartment at a glance, from one end to the
other. When more
privacy is needed automated blinds come downs from
the ceiling covering
the glass walls of the bathroom.
Finally the use of the materials also helps to reinforce that idea of uniformity.
A continuous wood flooring throughout the apartment
and the plaster
ceiling with no slopes and holes, creates two
parallel planes that frame our
eyes. On the other hand the use of tulipie wood in
forniture and paneled
walls that hide columns and integrate doors,
cabinets, kitchen installations
and acces to the gallery allow us to reinforce this
idea of unity.
